Pattern: La mia Boutique 4/2003, model 45

Super quick and easy pattern.The front and back are the same. It takes four seams and four hems to finish it.

 

I like how it creases around the body and the fall of the neck.

 

I used this pattern before with a very stretchy fabric, but now for this knit, since the pattern pieces looked very narrow to me,  I added  2 cm to the body and 1 to the sleeves. I think the hips need a few more, heh. :-)
Very very nice pattern! Maybe it would be accented even more with a patterned fabric?

The top looks better when on a real body because of the sleeves. They  look renaiscanceish so I'd better find someone to take a picture of me wearing it, right? ;-))

Burda  2/2009, model 108

 

Very nice pattern, quick and easy to sew.

But I wasn't paying attention to the pattern. The flower ended right in the middle of the back. Is that too bad?

Month of tops - No 5

This shirt is a refashion inspired by Tanya's Simplicity 2852. I took a look at the line drawing and then drafted my own pattern. I started by tracing over an existing basic shirt pattern from Burda that I previously altered for a better fit.

 

For the front I traced and cut the yoke and then opened the upper part to get the folds. The bottom was left unchanged to let it lay flat on the body. The sleeve was made into a semi-fitted bell sleeve. I hope you can see the changes in the pic. 

The fabric to be used was a crepe knit leftover and an old flowery skirt.

I cut the body of the shirt with barely any leftovers, joined the pieces and spotted this on the bottom of the back!

 

Can you see? The red stains and the running stitches? Uh! Fortunately I managed to squeeze the missing part on a leftover piece of the flowery fabric.

 

Not finished yet. Few more things to do!

I added a narrow cuff and opened the neckline a bit.

 

Et voila' !

 

You know me, the central seam on the yoke wasn't making me happy so I also added the buttons!

What do you say? Not bad for my first knock off, eh? And it's also a refashion! :-)

Month of tops - No 4

Pattern: Burda 12/2008, model113, size 40

So, the line drawing of this pattern looks nice and fitted, doesn't it? Well, it is not!! It felt about two sizes too big when I tried the shirt on. I had to take every single seam in about 1,5 cm.

The hems ended up being wonky. I left them that way. They look fine along with the ruffled neckline, just as if they were supposed to be wavy. :-)

To add some interest to the neckline I sewed on this ruffled elastic. More girly looking.

I found this light woolly knit in one of my boxes. I totally forgot about it. What a fortunate find at the right time, eh?

Pattern : Wrapover top Burda 1/2009, size 40

Gosh, this is transparent! 

This top looks great paired with a skirt. I should give it some length to go with jeans, though.

Definitely going to make it again!

 

Month of tops - No 2

Pattern: Sabrina Woman S1536 (German magazine), model 19, size 40/42

 

 

Maybe this double knit is not the right fabric for this pattern. Too stiff, I guess.

The shoulders kept pulling down so I had to take in the back. Now the front looks better, but the back still needs improvements.

What impressed me about this pattern is the length of the shirt and the width of the hips. It looks like the designers had curvy women in mind. I think I'm going to sew it again just to see how it works with a softer fabric. The picture of the purple shirt above is not showing much, really.

Let's call this top a muslin, shall we? Even a wearable one. If I put a cardigan on top. :-)

Month of tops - No 1

Not quite promising the look of this piece of knit, eh?

After going crazy for a long while I realized there was no way to match the lines and decided to cut anyway. What else?

The pattern I chose:

Only three seams.Perfect.

You know what? The lines matched! But they were running slightly diagonal. Go figure...

I opened the neckline a bit and added a neckband - that wouldn't  stay up!

 

Front - looking bad.

Back - looking good.

 

I fixed the neckline by pulling it to one side. I folded it,secured with a few stitches and added buttons.

 

 

Well, I like this version better. What do you think?
