Yay! It's finished! I wore it yesterday evening and people liked it. :-)
To recap - the body and sleeves have been lengthened
- the pattern has been adjusted for narrow and forward sloping shoulders
- the fabric is a heavy knit, present from Grandma
- I stretched the fabric with the iron but the soaking to get it back to shape didn't work. This fabric has nothing to do with natural fibers, obviously. To save the thing I used crochet cotton and embroided spirals. (Now I'm scared to iron the hems..)
- I made polymer clay buttons for embellishment.
Buttons detail: Cute and fun!
Embroidery details: Add another layer of interest and dynamic to an otherwize broad uniform yellow area.
This is an absolute gem...I love the silhouette and the buttons! Were they hard to make? They "make" the jacket.

Thank, Mary! The buttons were super easy to make. You just need the polymer clay and some imagination. Few minutes in the oven and they were done!

You know I love this pattern -- and the yellow is fabulous! All those details--the embroidery, the buttons, add so much to the elegant shape.
I wanted to ask, though, since I've seen you mention is before -- what do you mean by stretching the fabric with the iron? Is it something you're supposed to do with knits? Forgive my ignorance, but it sounds like important sewing-knowledge to have! :)

Oh, no no! It was an accident! You know, when you press you move the iron across the fabric. Well, this particular knit is totally synthetic (it seems)so I managed to actually scorch it. Fortunately it only stretched under the hot iron (like plastic would). There weren't burns or holes. I must have used too much heat and such fabrics cannot be restored.

That is so cute! I'd like one of those for late fall - early winter.

Beautiful! Sometimes having to rescue a project from an accident results in a marvelous detail that otherwise would never have been born. The stitching you added doesn't look like a rescue at all, though ... more like a couture detail!

The pattern is great, isn't it, Faye? I'm sure you would totally make it look Jackie O!
Pam, yes, I love being able to come up with a solution that actually lifts the whole garment.
Thank you ladies for the comments!
