The Flowery Skirt

Pink flowery top Burda 2/2009-108 - altered armscye

Digging through my stash I found this fabric that must be at least 10 years old. It's a light stretchy mesh. There was enough to make a T-shirt.

I used the Burda 2/2009-108 pattern with the altered armscye now. This fabric behaves strangely, though. There is no stretch lengthwise so it pulls oddly at the side seams. Thus, the most important thing I wanted to know about this alteration of the armscye is not really visible. Fortunately I also cut the colorful knit, so we shall see when I put that shirt together.

Brown shorts

Made using the Perfect Pants Pattern and fabric remnants and scraps and recycled notions.

There is still the crotch problem. Will have to alter the pattern some more. :-(

Clorful Top Burda 2/2009-108 - altered pattern

I love this pattern! I really do, but never altered it before. First, it needed to be lengthened. Then I made a swayback adjustment. Then I implemented all I learned last week about narrow and forward sloping shoulders. And it made all the difference! The top fits unbelievably well. So I decided the pattern could be turned into a TNT.

Hmmm...not yet. I'd love to try one more thing. It is drafting a shallower armscye.

I love the crazy colors of this fabric. It's a light and fresh cotton knit. I have enough left to make a T-shirt. And will use it to see how the next adjustment works.

Z's pants La Mia Boutique Uomo autunno/inverno 1997-98

He is so pleased with his new pants! The best ones, he sais. :-) Light as air and keep him cool.

I made two  muslins. The first was too big. The second needed only some twitching. I think the result is pretty nice. But the thing I'm proud of is the matching of the lines at the side seams! This plaid is asymmetrical. Every piece had to be cut individually. I just wasn't able to match the vertical lines also. Maybe some other time. But I'm not a perfectionist. Fortunately. Otherwise I would have already gone mad with this pair of trousers.

 

Comfy! :-D

Stripey jacket La Mia Boutique 2-2010/3 finished

Needs few more details. Neater sleeve hem finish and I'd love bigger buttons (and a gigantic flower corsage). But, hey! It's so nice! Thanks for all the encouragement to finish it!

 

 

I altered the pattern. The yellow jacket pieces are waiting to be sewn together. I'm happy. :-D

Summer jacket muslin La Mia Boutique 2-2010/3

 

For the La Mia Boutique 2-2010/3 jacket  I used a piece of heavy knit Grandma gave me the last time I went home. It is bell shaped and has bell sleeves that I lengthened to the wrist because I thought they would be too short at elbow length.

The knit to be used for the real one is yellow. Also Grandma's gift.

This is a muslin, but could be wearable, don't you think? The more I look at it the more I like it. And it looks surprisingly good on me. To be honest, I was a little bit worried that the bell shape would accent my hips even more. It's not that bad, though. And I also like the retro look and the dramatic collar. That's what attracted me in the line drawing. I shall lengthen the sleeves a tad more and , as I learned recently, I need to make a narrow shoulder and forward shoulder alteration. I tried to make these alterations on a dress bodice and what a difference it made!

Self-Stitched-September

Kind of joined two weeks ago but totally forgot to pledge here.

Planning a brown mini wardrobe this time!

Right. We all know how planning works for me. At least I know I seriously need a jacket.

Blue shorts

At first I thought I would use a patch to mend the back band. So I started joining the tear with stithces when a simple solution hit me. Just fused a piece of interfacing to the back side and topstitched with zigzag. Done!

 

No one will ever know. :-)

 

I couldn't decide which buttons to use for the closure so I went for snaps.

 

The shorts were made with a cotton fabric remnant without any stretch in it. Not comfortable at all. I thought that after test wearing them for some time the fabric would loosen. But it didn't considerably.

Since there was no ease in the fabric another issue became obvious. The crotch needs to be wider and deeper. Obviously the Perfect Pants Pattern needs to be altered some more! I already altered the crotch curve, but I don't remember if I lengthened the body of the pants. Can this be the solution to the problem?

Not the day today

The last few days I decided to take all my UFOs a step further. No matter how small the step. A dart or a hem. So I did. And now I feel much better, the pile got smaller and less overwhelming, and the pins are back into their little box. Because it happens that I run out of pins.

So...why was it not my day today? When I was just about to finish the blue shorts, this happened:

Err, they will have to wait until tomorrow to be rescued.

Then, I managed to finish the bronze hat. Quite lovely!

 

But! Some threads pulled out from (or of?) the edge seam of the brim. Ugh.

However, there is one good news. I also finished Z's pants! :-)
